Great cruise overall BUT .....
by Charles H from Phoenix, AZ
Sailing date:
May 2010
Pros:
The Food and Service were outstanding
Cons:
The constant gouging for tips, expensive photos and drinks
The tipping is borderline abusive. We were charged 10 USD per day for tips-service was great so we were fine with that since we knew about it ahead of time. Each drink cost us 15% tip as well as the price of the drink (very high). The photos are nice but very expensive and the photographers are very aggressive. Recommend offering a photo package up front with options when the cruise is booked-this was a huge turn off. Understand the soft drinks in the cabin being very highly priced, but a bottle of regular water was there and we couldn't drink it without being price gouged. Lastly, we had a friend who participated in one of the main deck events that they used on the cruise CD. He cut his hand badly on the underside of a rusty railing, and the ship gave him a hard time about treatment, and then wouldn't give him a free DVD of the event that he helped to make fun. How about a complimentary DVD of the cruise-this would cost just a few cents to make and would go a long way toward setting Carnival above and beyond the others. Service and Food were phenomenal-I wonder whether ALL of the gratituities charges actually go to the hard working cabin and food service workers-they are awesome. Good experience but watch your pocket-if given a chance they will get into it deeply.

Shops near ship are exhorbitant and quality of goods is questionable. Get away from the pier for better pricing.

A great vacation!
by A Traveler from Chapel Hill, NC
Sailing date:
Dec 2006
Pros:
The food, the staterooms, the excursions were excellent. Our cabin was kept absolutely spotless, room service was very prompt, and the staff was very helpful. Well worth the price we paid!
Cons:
The entertainment was a little cheesy.
The stateroom was much better than I had expected. The food in the formal dining room was excellent. (The buffett wasn't as good, but was still very tasty.) Everything was very well organized. Getting on and off the ship could have been MUCH worse. It was easier than going through the airport. The staff did a great job. Our room was kept spotless. We had no complaints the entire time.
