White-sand beaches, turquoise waters, and year-round gorgeous weather make the Bahamas a perfect cruise destination. You can enjoy water sports like jet skiing, parasailing, or snorkeling, swim with dolphins, or even just soak up the sun shoreside.

The Bahamian chain consists of 700 islands and 2,000 cays and is scattered over 90,000 square miles; they stretch from Grand Bahama Island to Great Inagua. The Bahama Islands are unique in that they lay in both the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. Nearly 60 percent of the current population lives on New Providence Island, on which Nassau, the capital, is situated.
Nassau, Bahama's most visited destination, is the social, political, cultural, and economic center of this island chain. Nassau is filled with beaches, shopping, resorts, casinos, historic landmarks, and water and land activities, so it's no wonder Nassau attracts one million travelers a year.
Freeport is located on Grand Bahama Island, the fourth largest island in the Bahamas, and is known for its beaches, golfing, and watersports. Nearby Lucaya is also a popular cruise destination and features local shopping, golf courses, and luxurious resorts.

When visiting Grand Bahama Island, your cruise ship will dock at Lucaya Harbor, which is 10 minutes from Freeport and 25 minutes from Lucaya. Not much is within walking distance of Lucaya Harbor, so you'll need to take a taxi or a bus to reach any Bahaman attractions. Prince George Wharf is where your Bahamas cruise to Nassau will dock. The surrounding area is active, and developed, and most attractions are within walking distance. Taxis, buses, and rental cars are also readily available. Some cruise lines own private islands in the Bahamas and will stop there during your Bahamas cruise vacation. Harbor Cruise: A 2.5 hour boat ride lets you view scenic areas with the help of a local tour guide. You can also tour Atlantis Resort and Predator Lagoon, which is home to sharks, barracuda, and more. Thriller Powerboat Tour: A 1 hour high-speed, high-thrill boating excursion in and around the Nassau coast. Only for those who can handle high velocities. Festival Place: Within walking distance of the port, this government-sponsored open-air pavilion features shops and stalls that sell arts and crafts, T-shirts, hot sauces, and other touristy items. You can also have your hair braided at the Hairbraider's Centre Outside, where expert Bahamian braiders are on-call. Isle of Capri Casino: Located in Freeport. Straw Markets: The largest in the Caribbean can be found in Nassau. Lucayan National Park: One of the oldest underwater cave systems in the world; found on Grand Bahama Island. Parrot Jungle's Garden of the Groves: Over 10,000 varieties of fauna from international origins; found on Grand Bahama Island. Underwater Explorers Society: Located in Freeport, here you can learn to scuba dive or improve your scuba skills. Other options include night dives, shark excursions, and The Dolphin Experience, where you can swim with the dolphins. Trikk Pony Adventures: Venture through nature trails and along the beach while on horseback; offered in Freeport. Atlantis Resort: Located on Paradise Island, this fun-filled resort has a beach, marine life, The Dig, pools, and waterslides. Junkanoo Festival Museum: Dedicated to the Mardi Gras-like Junkanoo Festival; located in Prince George Wharf. Helicopter Tour: See Nassau from a bird's-eye view; departs from Paradise Island. Abaco Islands: Home to Hope Town, where you can see one of the last three hand-wound kerosene-burning lighthouses in the world. Also on the Abaco Islands are Tahiti Beach, a bicentennial memorial to New Plymouth, and Green Turtle Cay, where you can feed the stingrays. Bimini: Home of the Bimimi Wall, where you can dive 70 feet into the Gulf Stream. Eleuthera Island: Only a 10-minute water taxi ride, this island features Pink Sands Beach, Old Anglican Church, 200-year old architecture at Dunmore Town, the Goombay Squash drink, and gorgeous sunset views. Port Lucaya Marketplace: A must-see when you're on Grand Bahama Island. Port Lucaya Marketplace features 70 vendors and restauranteurs. Arawak Cay: A man-made island with seafood vendors and a beautiful beach; located across from Fort Charlotte. Ardastra Gardens: Pink flamingos, honey bears and peacocks and more in Nassau, Bahamas. Balcony House: Nassau's oldest wooden structure and a great photo opportunity. Fort Charlotte: Home to dungeons, waterless moats, and underground passageways; located in Nassau. Pirates of Nassau: Children's pirate museum full of interactive adventures. Seaworld Explorer: 90 minute submarine tour departing from Nassau. Potters Cay: Under Paradise Island Bridge, you'll find vendors selling local goods and fruit. Cabbage Beach: Located on the north shore of Paradise Island. Cable Beach: Located on New Providence Island. Love Beach: Near Gambier Village, this beach is great for snorkeling. Smiths Point: Scenic area southwest of Freeport. Gold Rock Beach: Secluded beach on Grand Bahama Island. The Cloister: Historical monument near Nassau. Blue Lagoon Island: Off the coast of New Providence Island, Blue Lagoon is host to beautiful beaches and plenty of water sports. Temperatures vary little in the Bahamas from the average temperature of 80 degrees, and most days it's sunny outside. The rainy season occurs from May to October, and the hurricane season is most active from August through November, though the odds are always unlikely that you will be struck by a severe storm.
